Why I finally bought myself the ring I wanted

Like many girls, I grew up dreaming about my wedding.

I imagined the dress, the flowers, and of course, the moment my future fiancé would get down on one knee and propose with a beautiful diamond ring.

Whenever I saw a ring I loved on Instagram or Pinterest, I would save it. Not because I was planning to buy it, but because I hoped that one day someone would.

Growing up in a middle-class family with my mother as a homemaker, diamonds always felt like something special. Something that was gifted to you.

Not something you bought for yourself.

And even if I wanted to, traditional diamond jewellery was far beyond what I could comfortably spend on myself.

So the dream stayed a dream.

Then a few months ago, I came across lab-grown diamonds.

For the first time, I realised that owning a real diamond ring wasn't as far out of reach as I had always assumed. Suddenly, the designs I had been saving for years felt possible.

Out of curiosity, I sent one of my favourite Pinterest designs to Zeyvvar and asked if something similar could be made within my budget - my 1 month salary.

When they suggested a few options in silver and 14k gold that would keep the ring affordable without compromising on the look I wanted, I couldn't stop smiling.

For the first time, I wasn't imagining the ring.

I was actually choosing it.

A few weeks later, when the ring arrived, I must have opened the box ten times that day.

Because I had done something for myself that I had always believed needed someone else's permission.

The ring is beautiful, but that's not my favourite part of the story.

My favourite part is what it represents.

For years, I thought I had to wait for the right person, the right occasion, or the right stage of life.

Instead, I learned that sometimes you can simply decide that you're ready.

And every time I look at that ring, it reminds me of something important:

It's okay to stop waiting.

Sometimes, it's okay to choose yourself.
